CHAPTER NEWS Intermountain: Public Engagement Specialists Breakfast & Quarterly Meetings in Utah IAP2 Intermountain hosted the Foundations in Public Participation training in Salt Lake City last week, and hosted a meet and greet breakfast to introduce interested practitioners to members. In Utah, Intermountain is hosting a quarterly event in partnership with a monthly communications brown bag hosted by the Utah Department of Transportation. Three Things That Are Working to Start the Greater Los Angeles Chapter Chapter Volunteers Rock! Kit Cole, Lauren Cobb, Jennifer Trotter, and Scott Woodhill have been spearheading the effort in Southern California to form the Greater Los Angeles Chapter of IAP2 USA. Since the first meeting in June 2014, the emerging chapter has been growing steadily and they now have more than 160 professionals on the invite list. Student scholarships and internship available! APPLY NOW! IAP2 USA is involving student members in two new ways. 2017 is the inaugural year for our new national scholarship program. Up to three $500 scholarships will be awarded to IAP2 USA student members. The deadline for applications is February 10. Click here for the more information and the application kit. We are also seeking an intern to work virtually with us from January to August 2017. Webinar Rewind – December Social Media & P2 With more and more people demanding to be a part of the process when decisions affect them, social media has become an increasing reality for public engagement professionals. For the December learning webinar, civic engagement specialist Susanna Haas Lyons delivered a clinic on both the digital tools available and the approach needed in using those tools. Digital engagement is a complement to traditional engagement methods – like face-to-face meetings – but Susanna points out that it can never replace those methods.
