Job Responsibilities

  • Employee Safety, Development & Team Building - Provides employees with coaching, feedback, and developmental opportunities and building effective teams:
  • Demonstrates a passion for safety. Promotes and supports a culture of total safety including eliminating at-risk behaviors by conducting safety audits and inspections, eliminating hazards and near misses, and attending safety meetings.
  • Sets clear expectations and holds employees accountable for performance as well as safety goals/targets where applicable.
  • Oversees training and development of employees directly and indirectly managed and makes effective staffing decisions. Ensures required training is successfully completed.
  • Challenges and inspires employees to achieve business results.
  • Accountable to ensure employees adhere to legal and operational compliance requirements, as well as safety standards.
  • Conducts and ensures the completion of performance reviews and development plans.
  • Provides coaching, direction and leadership support to team members in order to achieve employee, business, customer and safety results.
  • Leads and manages the communications, public engagement, and outreach teams for key strategic company initiatives and issues related to clean energy planning and implementation. This includes development and implementation of the communications and public engagement work plan, materials, and team coordination and project management.
  • Assists in identifying, diagnosing, and solving complex organizational problems. Works confidently and diplomatically with diverse stakeholder groups.
  • Develops and executes the communication, public engagement, and outreach plans, which includes: clarification of the project scope goals and strategies, development of a communications and outreach work plan including timeline, deliverables, milestones and resources (financial and human), recruits cross-functional team members, conducts team building and provides training as needed.
  • Provides input into the development of the department's strategic planning process and input into the evolution of PSE's communication, public engagement and outreach strategies and approaches. Adapts departmental plans and priorities to address resource and operational challenges.
  • Accountable for the budget and team performance.
  • Exercises full management authority, including performance reviews, pay decisions, recruitment, discipline, termination and other personnel actions.
  • Contributes towards development of annual department budget and performance goals.
  • Serves as a regular liaison to internal groups including development and preparation of communications to internal stakeholders on communications and outreach issues related to clean energy impacting PSE.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.
Minimum Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s degree in communications, media, business innovation, strategic leadership/management, public relations or relevant field and 7 years of related work experience, or an equivalent combination of education and work experience
  • Proven experience in managing complex projects with cross-functional teams and in an ever-changing and fast-paced environment
  • Practical and successful application of community engagement strategies and tactics
  • Ability to contribute effectively in peer management teams
  • High level of organizational skills and attention to detail
  • High level of communication skills; strong written and oral skills; presentation skills
  • Ability to work with conflict
  • Ability to work on and with a cross-functional team
  • Professional level competencies necessary to comprehend, analyze, and influence a wide range of complex business units and corporate-wide initiatives and issues
  • Demonstrated ability to lead and manage multiple priorities and irregular schedule commitments
  • Ability to manage projects, work with other departmental teams and deliver on commitments
  • Proficiency in MS Office tools
Desired Qualifications
  • Advanced degree in strategic leadership or management
  • Direct experience in public engagement and managing advisory groups.
  • Experience with environmental equity.
  • Experience leading key communication or outreach initiatives outside of the utility industry
  • Broad knowledge of gas and electric utility rates, business objectives, to include operations, customer service, finance, and corporate relations
  • Public Affairs acumen/aptitude. Understanding of working with communities and civic world, and its effect on PSE projects

PSE's Clean Energy Strategy team is working to fulfill the policies of the Clean Energy Transformation Act - reaching clean electricity standards and ensuring all customers benefit from the clean electricity transition. Responsible for leading the communications, public engagement, and outreach components for the Clean Energy Implementation Plan and supporting stakeholder engagement efforts for resource planning. Facilitates the effective leverage of key resources from within and outside of the department in order to attain PSE's goals. Through cross-functional collaboration and excellent team building and management, this position will play a key role in operations and planning to pro-actively clarify and challenge expectations and assumptions about each initiative and issue reflecting the customer and/or employee perspective.
