Community engagement is often thought of as a series of public meetings designed to gather information used in policy, budget and program decisions. When community engagement is an organizational value, it exists in all of the organization’s transactions. Community engagement is the responsibility of all employees who deliver direct service.

This is a reprise of Mickey Fearn's session at the 2019 IAP2 North American Conference, which attendees told us should be shared with other P2 practitioners in a webinar form.

Among other things, you'll come away with a better understanding of the challenges and demands that race, ethnicity, culture, shifting demographics and cultural pluralism make on democratic process and public engagement. Participants will understand how these factors affect public engagement processes and understand how to apply tools and strategies in response to those demands. Create and conduct innovative experiments with employees, community organizations and residents that demonstrate a commitment to relevancy, inclusion, diversity and equity.
