Members of the general public are demanding, more and more, to be heard and considered on issues that affect them, and many public entities are taking the hint. The City of Edmonton, Alberta, Canada, has gone through a rapid expansion of its public engagement staff and has committed to consulting with the people on issues. That work earned the city the IAP2 Canada Core Values Award for Organization of the Year for 2018.
In San Francisco, the Municipal Transportation Authority (SFMTA) also stepped up its commitment to public engagement, and was Organization of the Year in 2017.
