Online engagement has gone from being the Next Big Thing in public participation to a "given"; but there are still a lot of questions and answers and lessons to be learned. We are delighted to bring together two of the more well-received presentations from the 2019 IAP2 North American Conference in Charlotte, NC, to bring some of those issues into focus.

We'll get to hear the success story of the North Carolina Department of Transportation from the co-presenters of Transforming Public Apathy: How Online Engagement is Revitalizing North Carolina. Jamille Robbins, Ashley Bush and Dave Biggs will discuss how the NCDOT combined creative online public participation techniques with an inspired communications strategy. They systematically identified and removed ten significant barriers to participation and generated unprecedented results for a wide variety of planning efforts, from focused corridor studies to statewide transportation improvement plans. In all, they saw an increase in participation of 7000%.

They'll be joined by Miranda Eng of Context - An Argyle Company, who will share some of the tactics and lessons her colleagues have learned about the Art and Science of Online Engagement. Really, it's harder than it looks. While modern and accessible, how do you choose the right online platform and tools to use, to creatively inform (and not bore) people, to gather the input you need, while reaching those underrepresented populations you want to hear from?

You'll learn about a practical approach to designing online engagement, including how to marry design principles for user experience and target outreach tactics to hear from underrepresented groups.

Remember the two-stage process for registering for these webinars: your confirmation email will contain a link to the webinar site. Fill out that form in order to get your login information.
