Webinar Description:

The City of Austin’s new Equity-Based Preservation Plan was authored by a 26-member community working group with input from thousands of Austinites. Join City staff to learn about collaborative engagement strategies—and lessons learned—in the Plan’s development and early implementation. The Plan won the Project of the Year and General Project awards from IAP2 USA in 2025. 

Presenter(s): Cara Bertron, Program Manager II, and Annie Flom, Senior Planner | City of Austin 

Cara Bertron works to shape more equitable places through community and cultural preservation. She currently manages policy, programs, and outreach for the Historic Preservation Office in Austin, Texas, after facilitating the development of the City’s award-winning Equity-Based Preservation Plan. Cara’s work has been recognized by the National Trust for Historic Preservation, the National Alliance of Preservation Commissions, Preservation Action, Next City, and IAP2. 

Annie Flom is a senior planner at the City of Austin’s Historic Preservation Office. Originally from Chicago, Annie earned her Bachelor of Arts degree in art history from Wesleyan University and earned her Master of Science degree from UT Austin’s Community and Regional Planning program. Her experience includes project management, community engagement, content creation, and research work, and is currently working to implement the Equity-Based Preservation Plan in her role at the City of Austin.
