IAP2 USA November-December Newsletter |
![]() No question: as we head into Thanksgiving, there is a lot to be thankful for with IAP2 USA this year! Membership has surged, we’re offering new learning opportunities, and we live in a country where the idea that people of all walks of life should have a say in decisions that affect them is embraced -- no matter what the discourse looks like! Plenty to celebrate, indeed! In this action-packed installment, you’ll find:

Our membership is growing stronger. In the last three years we’ve nearly tripled our membership. We’re now nearing 1500 members across the country. Our friends in IAP2 Australasia have over 7000, so we’ve got nothing but what looks like a positive road ahead to grow a tight knit, active and influential membership right here in the USA. Our chapters are growing stronger: Because our members like each other, they want to do good work together. Which means we have right now—count ‘em—ten emerging chapters across the country.

Webinar Rewind – It’s a fact that people are demanding a voice in matters that concern them in increasing numbers. It’s also a fact that organizations are playing catch-up in that department. Our October webinar featured two organizations that are setting a standard in entrenching public participation in their makeup: the San Francisco Municipal Transportation Agency (SFMTA) and the City of Edmonton.
The City of Edmonton won the 2018 IAP2 Canada Core Values Award for Organization of the Year, as well as the IAP2 Federation Organization of the Year award. IAP2 Monthly Learning webinars are available exclusively to IAP2 USA members. Click here to watch the webinar and see others. Webinar Rewind – “What is our role in protecting Truth?” was the presenting question in our November webinar, in which Sam Imperati and Devin Howington reprised a successful presentation from the IAP2 North American Conference in Victoria.
Monthly webinars are recorded and are available as a member benefit for IAP2 USA members. Check out the page here. | Webinar On-Deck:
“Diversity & Inclusion in P2” How do you engage people from a variety of walks of life in your P2 projects? Here’s a chance to learn from two large projects that embraced that opportunity. Our January 8th webinar features the Core Values Award winners from the USA and Canada in “Respect for Diversity, Inclusion and Culture”. In Oregon, TriMet set out to expand its public transportation infrastructure in the Portland area, and much of the plans involved communities with historically underrepresented populations. The process succeeded in addressing the unique cultural, ethnic and linguistic aspects along the proposed routes. The City of Surrey, British Columbia, is one of the largest and fastest-growing cities in Metro Vancouver, with a broad diversity of ethnicities and cultures. Reviewing and updating its Parks, Recreation and Culture Strategy was a large task, which succeeded in addressing the needs -- including those of culture, demographics and accessibility.
