P2 continues to evolve from one-time events to a culture of engagement. Just like our physical roads, bridges, and pipes, our P2 “infrastructure” needs a solid framework to deliver meaning and value. To support that evolution, participants assess the strengths and weaknesses of P2 infrastructure including local policies, professional practices, resources and capabilities, and performance -- grounded in IAP2 Core Values/Code of Ethics. Working in teams, participants assess their communities using a robust P2 Audit Worksheet with critical questions and clear guidance; learn to interpret their findings; and draw from best practices, case studies, and innovations to create an Action Plan to upgrade P2 infrastructure.

Trainer(s): Marijoan (MJ) Bull & Anne Carroll
Marijoan Bull, PhD, AICP, has over 30 years of professional planning experience, conducting planning, management, community engagement, implementation, and evaluative activities. This includes municipal, regional, and non-profit work. In addition, she is Professor Emerita of Westfield State University, having co-authored a textbook, Housing in America: An Introduction, taught regional planning courses for 11 years, and conducted academic and civic engagement research in the areas of sustainability, housing, and neighborhood revitalization. She is active in IAP2 USA, the American Planning Association, and is a certified planner.
Anne Carroll has been a consultant and trainer in public involvement and strategic planning for many years serving both public and nonprofit sectors. She focuses on designing and implementing inclusive and substantive stakeholder engagement on important public issues, reaching out to and engaging diverse groups of people and perspectives, and tackling complex and multi-stakeholder environments. She served for 16 years as an elected member of the citywide St. Paul Board of Education, and serves as a board member or committee chair with the International Association for Public Participation USA and the Midwest Chapter, Minnesota Education Equity Partnership, and E-Democracy.org.
