Michael Bailey serves as the Deputy Director for the Office of Legislative Affairs and Outreach at Georgia’s Department of Human Services (DHS). He is responsible for developing and leading the agency’s outreach strategy, it’s corporate social responsibility program and the agency’s pursuit of strategic partnerships. As an agency, DHS strives to bring safety and stability to hundreds of thousands of Georgians who otherwise are at risk of living without basic assurances such as food, medical care, and protection from harm. Michael’s work helps to strengthen Georgia by providing individuals and families access to services that promote self-sufficiency, independence, and protect Georgia's vulnerable children and adults.
Michael has a strong passion for empirical research and civic engagement. Two of Michael’s focus areas as a board member include increasing the level awareness around IAP2 practices within the public sector and increasing opportunities for academics, practitioners and policymakers to collaborate.
In his most recent post, Michael served under South Carolina Governors Nikki Haley and Henry McMaster as a political appointee where he served on South Carolina’s Board for Professional Counselors and Therapists. During this time, Michael also served on the Board of Trustees for Prisma Health’s Richland Memorial Hospital, an appointment he received after serving on the Board of Directors for one of South Carolina’s Regional Commissions.
Michael is a graduate of The Citadel, The Military of College of South Carolina. He received his Master’s degree in Political Science from the University of South Carolina where he was recognized as an Equity and Inclusion Fellow by the Association for Public Policy Analysis and Management.
