Due to the IAP2 North American Conference, the October webinar has been delayed by a week.
Projects aimed at increasing the level of involvement in decision-making for school district parents and patients in BC's public health system were honored with IAP2 Core Values Awards at the 2014 IAP2 North American Conference in Winnipeg.
Who should know children better than their parents? So why does it seem like a novel idea to have parents involved in decisions regarding their education -- beyond the PTA and bake-sale level, let's say? The St Vrain Valley School District in Colorado received the Research Project of the Year Award for "Leadership St Vrain -- Empowering Parents through P2". Dr John Poyntonfrom the district, and Laura McDonald, one of the key parents involved in this initiative, will join us to discuss what they learned in the process and how it's working.
How successful is it, moving patients from the role of "health care consumer" to "health care participant"? Vancouver Coastal Health Authority in BC won the awards for Project of the Year and "Creativity, Collaboration and Innovation in the Field" for the Community Engagement Advisory Network, or CEAN (pronounced "KEEN"). Belinda Boyd and Saori Yamamoto of VCHA will talk about their experiences in making this work.
